Jesus – Matthew 4:4

In this verse, Jesus is responding to Satan, who had tempted Him to turn stones into bread to satisfy His hunger. Jesus’ response is a quote from the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy 8:3, where Moses is reminding the Israelites of the time when they were wandering in the desert and God provided manna, a miraculous bread-like substance, to sustain them.

The meaning of Jesus’ words is that human beings need more than physical food to survive; we also need spiritual nourishment from God’s Word. Jesus is affirming the importance of relying on God for our sustenance and strength, rather than trying to meet our needs through our own efforts or the things of this world.

This verse also reminds us that the Bible is the source of spiritual food and sustenance for our lives. Just as physical bread is essential to sustain our physical bodies, the Word of God is essential to sustain our souls and keep us spiritually healthy. So, as followers of Christ, we must prioritize our spiritual nourishment and seek to regularly feed on God’s Word to grow in our faith and relationship with Him.
